“I’m not satisfied with the performance,” said Liam Rosenior, whose RC Strasbourg Alsace side did nonetheless get the win in their UEFA Europa Conference League opener against Slovan Bratislava.
Away in Slovakia, this always promised to be a difficult encounter for Strasbourg, who were looking to bounce back from their late defeat to Olympique de Marseille the previous weekend. The task was made more difficult by the absences of Emanuel Emegha and Joaquín Panichello, which left Le Racing without a recognised No.9 on Thursday night.
However, Strasbourg netted twice in the first half. Alasana Yirajing’s own goal handed Rosenior’s side the advantage, and their lead was doubled just before half-time as Abdoul Ouattara was on hand to turn home a pass from Martial Godo’s pass. It was the former Fulham man’s ball that also led Yirajing to turn into his own net.
Rahim Ibrahim halved the deficit just after the hour mark, however, Strasbourg would hold on to secure the win.
