Strasbourg are stepping up recruitment ahead of their Ligue 1 opener at Marseille on Friday 21 August at 20:45, with Fabio Baldé close and negotiations under way for Jeyland Mitchell. Fabrizio Romano reports that the Mitchell option is genuine.

Working within UEFA financial limits, Strasbourg will record the sales of Julio Enciso and Abdoul Ouattara to Ipswich, a €60m package that will help fund reinforcements.

Baldé, 21, the German-Portuguese winger at Hamburg who can operate on either flank, is close to joining for around seven million euros, excluding bonuses. He made 16 Bundesliga appearances last season.

The club are also in the market for a leading centre-back, with Guéla Doué and Ismaël Doukouré available to leave.

Mitchell, a 21-year-old Costa Rica international at Sturm Graz, formerly home to Emmanuel Emegha, would be inclined to join Strasbourg, but any move depends on discussions between the clubs.
