Djordje Petrović (25) is unlikely to return to RC Strasbourg Alsace next season, the club’s president, Marc Keller, has told RMC Sport show After Foot.
Petrović is coming off the back of a strong loan spell at Strasbourg. His performances helped Les Alsaciens exceed expectations in Liam Rosenior’s first season in charge as the club qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League. It was thought that his loan spell at Chelsea’s partner club would be a springboard for him to return to Stamford Bridge and compete for the No.1 jersey. In his absence last season, neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen overly convinced.
However, the Serbian goalkeeper has not travelled with Chelsea to the US for the FIFA Club World Cup. A departure this summer, therefore, looks highly likely. Strasbourg, however, is an unlikely destination for the goalkeeper, as Keller confirmed.
“I don’t think [that he’ll come back to Strasbourg] simply because he is a player of incredible quality and I think that he can probably target a Champions League or Europa League side, either [by staying] at Chelsea or elsewhere should he leave,” Keller told RMC Sport. He added that RCSA are scouring the market for a replacement for the departed Petrović.
