Strasbourg have recalled Pape Demba Diop from his loan at Nuremberg.
Kicker reports that Strasbourg exercised a recall clause, a decision that angered the German club’s hierarchy.
The Senegalese midfielder’s spell ends after half a season and 10 matches in the 2. Bundesliga.
Sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou said they regretted the call-back, wanted to extend the deal and felt Diop fitted the team.
Diop is under contract until 2030 after joining from Zulte-Waregem last summer for €5m. He has yet to make a first-team appearance for Strasbourg and could be loaned again before the winter window closes.
