Strasbourg set to sign Rennes’ Guéla Doué

After rejecting an approach from Galatasaray, Guéla Doué (21) is set to remain in Ligue 1, leaving Stade Rennais for RC Strasbourg Alsace, reports L’Equipe.

With only one year remaining on his current deal, Doué is one of Rennes’ players on the transfer list and is on the verge of joining a massive list of departures at the Brittany side this summer, who is clearly entering a new era. One of Ligue 1’s revelations this season, Doué climbed Rennes’ pecking order, whether it is under Bruno Genésio or Julien Stéphan’s tenure. The Ivorian international took part in 33 games across all competitions, logging two assists. At 21 years old, the right back already had a taste of European football last season, adding valuable experience for his suitors this summer.

While Galatasaray have submitted an offer reaching Rennes’ valuation of Doué, the defender refused to join the Turkish champions, favouring to stay in France. Strasbourg’s interest materialised with a €6.5M offer, to which €2M of bonuses has been included. A fee that convinced Rennes to let their talent go. If the Alsace side struggled to find an agreement on personal terms with the Ivorian international, L’Equipe reports that a total agreement has now been found, with Doué having been seduced by Liam Rosenior’s project.
