Violence broke out in the Stade de la Meinau on Sunday evening as Strasbourg supporters clashed among themselves during their 3-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais, according to a report from L’Équipe. The incidents occurred in the West Stand shortly after the first quarter-hour of the traditional UB90 protest silence. The trigger was the unfurling of banners carrying far-right messaging by a group of independents, including former members of the Offenders – a hooligan group dissolved by the French government in September.

One banner read “FCK AFA,” targeting anti-fascist movements, while another bore the message “Quentin présent,” referencing Quentin Deranque, an identitarian activist killed in Lyon during a clash between far-right and far-left sympathisers earlier this month. The banners were swiftly removed by stewards, but tensions escalated immediately. The UB90, historically opposed to far-right movements and keen to keep political messaging out of the stand, confronted those responsible.

“Our stand is not political, so out,” the capo reportedly told the section via megaphone.

Punches were thrown in the lower part of the West Stand as supporters chanted “Strasbourg antifa!” Surveillance footage has been passed to the authorities, and investigations are ongoing. Some individuals involved reportedly wore black and white balaclavas. No injuries have been reported.

The unrest comes against a broader backdrop of friction between UB90 and the club’s hierarchy under BlueCo ownership. Before kick-off, security refused entry to a UB banner reading: “Chelsea does not decide what happens at Racing”GFFN | George Boxall
