Strike at Bayern v Leipzig: Thanks to this plan, the match can go ahead

Despite the announced Verdi strike in Munich’s public transport system, the DFB Cup quarter-final between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig will go ahead as planned. The match will take place at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening at 8.45 p.m. This is made possible by a comprehensive special concept that has been developed in close consultation between FC Bayern, the Munich Transport Company (MVG), the police and other parties involved

The core of the plan is a special subway service exclusively for the cup match. MVG is setting up a special service on Wednesday: subway trains will run between Marienplatz and Fröttmaning from 5.30 p.m. until the end of the day at the usual regular intervals for Bayern home matches. The stations in between will be open for boarding so that fans can get to the Allianz Arena by subway despite the strike

In addition, the tried-and-tested bus transfer service will be extended. More buses than usual will be used from the Donnersberger Brücke S-Bahn station. This time, they will not go directly to the stadium but to the Kieferngarten U-Bahn station. After the match, the buses will even go directly to Karlsplatz (Stachus) if necessary in order to spread out the departures. In addition, further shuttle buses will be used from the parking lot of the FC Bayern Campus, which is only around two kilometers away

Despite this special concept, all those involved are expecting restrictions. FC Bayern expressly asks its fans to allow considerably more time for their arrival and departure. Those arriving by car should form carpools if possible. We also ask for your understanding, as the strike and the parallel construction work on the S-Bahn network are making the traffic situation even more difficult

Allianz Arena remains open longer

To alleviate the situation, the Allianz Arena will open at 6.30 pm on Wednesday and will remain open longer than usual after the match. The later stay in the stadium should help to alleviate departure traffic and reduce waiting times

MVG will provide up-to-date information on the public transport situation on its website mvg.de and in the MVGO app. The strike will affect the subway, streetcars and all bus lines up to and including number 199 in Munich. In addition, the S-Bahn will only operate to a very limited extent from 10.20 p.m. due to construction work on the second main line

One thing is certain: the cup tie between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig will take place – but for fans, getting to the match will remain an organizational challenge.
