Striker out for a month, future at Corinthians in doubt

Forward Héctor Hernández marks one month away from Corinthians’ main squad this Friday, the 19th, and is facing a career impasse. Out of the coaching staff’s plans, the Spaniard sees fewer and fewer transfer options as the main transfer windows close in the football market.

The club’s management had hoped to negotiate the player to free up space on the payroll, but no deal progressed before the end of the last European window in early September. Now, only a few alternatives remain: clubs in Saudi Arabia can sign players until the 23rd, those in the United Arab Emirates until October 1st, in addition to markets considered peripheral on the international scene.

Given this scenario, the chance of selling or loaning Héctor in 2025 is practically nonexistent. The 30-year-old forward has a contract with Timão until the end of 2026. A possible reintegration was considered internally, but there was no progress.

According to information from ge.globo, sources within the club deny any episode of indiscipline as justification for the separation. The assessment is that the Spaniard’s presence in training could reduce opportunities for other forwards and even hinder collective activities, due to the excess of players available for the position.

Last month, in an interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca, Héctor stated that he had not received any explanation for training separately and still had hopes of a transfer. Rayo Vallecano, from Spain, was mentioned as interested, but negotiations did not progress.

While training at different times from the rest of the group, coach Dorival Júnior has taken advantage of the center-forward’s absence to give more opportunities to the young Gui Negão. The 18-year-old forward started in six consecutive matches and scored four goals.

Signed about a year ago and with a contract valid until December 31, 2026, Héctor Hernández has played 24 matches for Corinthians and scored only two goals so far.
