The Mexican National Team played its second-to-last tune-up match ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and did so with plenty of Chivas representation in a narrow win over Australia. Two Guadalajara players were in the starting lineup at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, and here’s a look at how they performed.
Raúl Rangel got the nod in goal for El Tri and played the first 45 minutes of the match. As has become the norm, La Cantera Rojiblanca product once again kept a clean sheet. He also showed flashes of quality in Mexico’s build-up play thanks to his trademark ability with the ball at his feet.
Meanwhile, Luis Romo started in midfield and was on the pitch for 74 minutes. He finished the night with 1 key pass, 2 recoveries, and 1 shot on target. The Chivas midfielder has also been used as a center back during this process, a versatility that could make him an important piece for El Tri heading into the World Cup.
Armando González and Brian Gutiérrez remained on the bench after seeing action in the friendly against Ghana, while Roberto Alvarado was also unused against Australia. Mexico will face Serbia in Toluca on Thursday, June 4, in its final tune-up match before officially kicking off its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
