Chelsea fan and pundit Paul Merson has picked out two current Blues for criticism after their defeat to Sunderland yesterday.
There was some truly embarrassing defending that saw Chelsea throw the game away late on and lose 2-1 to Sunderland in the Premier League yesterday.
Chelsea were 1-0 up in this game but Sunderland came back with one goal, and then the second, to turn things around and grab all three points at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
There were some poor performers on the day for Chelsea all over the pitch really, but Merson has picked out two of them for extra criticism in attack – Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu.
Enzo Maresca has already attempted to defend Pedro’s performance from yesterday that really was undefendable in all honesty. Excuses wont wash today.

‘Well impressed with Sunderland today, I wasn’t with Chelsea,’ Merson told Sky Sports (cited by The Metro).
‘I thought they’d struggle. They need Delap back badly, they need a focal point.
‘Guiu played up front and I think he touched the ball nine, ten times. You can’t do that in a team that are supposed to be dominating the ball.
‘Chelsea ran out of ideas. They had winger after winger but half of them don’t go past anyone. Joao Pedro looked lost as a number ten. They struggled and were pretty poor.’
Whilst it was right to have Guiu on the pitch because he’s our only real 9, he’s still such a raw and developing player so it is always going to be hit or miss having him there.
Pedro has just seemed to go completely off the boil in recent games and I’d put that down to the fact he was playing as a 9. But yesterday he wasn’t even playing as a 9. A bit of a concern.
