Stuart Harvey has sent a classy message to Sunderland after starting as Stoke City’s technical director, acknowledging the Black Cats’ recent progress and setting out his next challenge in a LinkedIn post.
He left the Stadium of Light earlier this year amid major off-field changes, with Florent Ghisolfi now leading football operations. Harvey had been a key figure in the rebuild from League One back to the Premier League alongside Kristjaan Speakman and colleagues.
That surge continued under Régis Le Bris, as Sunderland finished seventh and secured Europa League football for the first time in more than 50 years. Harvey said he is proud of the part he played and of everyone involved, past and present.
Reflecting on time away from a full-time club role, he said the break allowed him to re-energise, keep learning and broaden his knowledge while staying active across the game.
He thanked those who supported him after his departure from Sunderland and reiterated that the club will always mean a great deal to him.
Looking ahead, Harvey expressed gratitude to John Coates and Jonathan Walters for the opportunity at the bet365 Stadium. He called Stoke a proud club with a strong history and a long Premier League spell, accepted the scale of the task and said he is eager to help the club move forward towards previous levels.
