But it wasn’t all a pleasant day out for Chelsea. Quite incredibly the Blues managed to pick up a FOURTH red card of the season (it’s not yet November) when Malo Gusto got a second yellow for a silly slide tackle.
Pundit Leon Osman didn’t hold back in his opinions on the Frenchman’s decision:
“The manager will be incensed by that red card,” Osman said on BBC 5Live.
“It’s one of those moments where you are on top in the game, things are going well, you are feeling great, all the chances and tackles are going your way. In hindsight it is the stupidest tackle in the world to make.”
There is a time and a place to take a second yellow. When you’re 3-0 up against a broken tea
You shouldn’t be going to ground at all at that point, let alone when you’re on a yellow. We used to call Nicolas Jackson the thickest player to ever wear a Chelsea shirt – he may have some competition now from Gusto.
The Frenchman will be able to play in midweek against Ajax, but will be banned in a week’s time when we face Sunderland. Expect Reece James to rest midweek then play in that match.
You can see Gusto’s red in the clip embedded here:
Chelsea did manage to win the game thanks to goals from Josh Acheampong, Reece James and Pedro Neto. You can see all those efforts here.
Despite a big 3 points after a much improved second half, it won’t just be the red card which is frustrating Chelsea fans. Wesley Fofana, who was supposed to be back for today’s game, wasn’t in the squad today either. We await more information about his status from Enzo Maresca after the game.
