Despite yet another promising comeback, Stuttgart centre-back Dan-Axel Zagadou is headed back to the sidelines. Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß confirmed yet another injury set-back for the 26-year-old, who did not feature against his former Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund over the weekend, at a Wednesday press conference.
Zagadou will not be traveling with his Bundesliga outfit to take on the Deventer Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League in Holland on Thursday. Hoeneß expressed lament that Zagadou’s injury-riddled career has apparently fallen back into an old, familiar, and frustrating pattern.
“We were caught off guard by this news of a significant muscle injury,” Hoeneß said on Wednesday. “He won’t start training until next week. It’s just bitter for the boy, who showed that he can get back to a high level. And it’s bitter for us because we have a player who performed at a very good Bundesliga level and can perform at the top Bundesliga level.“
