Stuttgart extend Laurin Ulrich to 2028 as Paderborn sign 21-year-old on loan | OneFootball

VfB Stuttgart have extended Laurin Ulrich’s deal to 2028 and loaned the 21-year-old to Bundesliga newcomers SC Paderborn for the season.

According to Transfermarkt, the loan carries a €600,000 fee. Ulrich debuted in the top flight against Bayer Leverkusen in 2022, his only Bundesliga appearance so far.

Paderborn will be his third loan in two years. A 2024/25 stint at SSV Ulm brought five appearances and one start before an early return. At 1. FC Magdeburg in 2025/26 he started 32 of 33 league games, scoring three and assisting three, and made 36 outings in all competitions.

Ulrich joined Stuttgart’s academy in 2016 and helped VfB II win promotion to the 3. Liga before moving out on loan. The club view the midfielder as a long-term project and the Paderborn switch offers the regular Bundesliga minutes that have eluded him in Stuttgart.

Paderborn’s rebuild follows the record sale of Mika Baur to Celtic for at least €5.25m. Ulrich joins alongside Hoffenheim loanees Deniz Zeitler and Nahuel Noll, and the report said the three loans amount to roughly €1.85m.

The club are also preparing to break their transfer record with the expected €3m signing of Gabriel Vidovic from Dinamo Zagreb. Ulrich’s market value is estimated at about €3.5m after his season with Magdeburg.

Stuttgart’s Fabian Wohlgemuth said the academy graduate remains significant to VfB and that they will track his progress. Paderborn’s Sebastian Lange praised Ulrich’s technique and game intelligence and believes he can take the next step.
