Paris Saint-Germain suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Sporting in Lisbon, missing the chance to all but secure a place in the Champions League knockout stages.
Despite dominating possession (over 70%) and firing 28 shots, PSG were undone late by Luis Suárez, who scored twice for the hosts.
The game looked headed for a draw when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia equalised with a curling strike five minutes after Suárez had put Sporting ahead. But in the 90th minute, Suárez pounced on a spilled shot from PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier to fire Sporting to a dramatic victory.
PSG’s attacking dominance told the story of the first half, with Ousmane Dembélé and Warren Zaire-Emery both having goals ruled out, while Nuno Mendes was also denied after a foul on Rui Silva. Yet all the pressure counted for nothing as Sporting’s efficiency proved decisive.
The win lifts Sporting to sixth in the group with 13 points, level with PSG, while the French champions are left needing a result in their final game to guarantee automatic qualification.
