Successful Trio Set to Extend Contracts: Bayern Bets on Continuity in Leadership | OneFootball

The signs at FC Bayern are pointing more and more clearly toward continuity. After Honorary President Uli Hoeneß recently spoke out publicly in favor of extending Max Eberl’s contract, President Herbert Hainer has now also thrown his support behind the sporting director. At the same time, there are indications that CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and sporting director Christoph Freund are also expected to remain with the record champions for the long term.

Just a few months ago, Max Eberl’s future was considered uncertain. Since then, however, the mood within the club’s leadership has shifted noticeably. The signings of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown, along with the transfer proceeds received so far, have significantly strengthened the 52-year-old’s position.

On the sidelines of the Audi Summer Tour in South Korea, Herbert Hainer clarified how Uli Hoeneß’s statements should be interpreted. “I’m assuming that Uli meant that we’re very satisfied with the current transfer window,” explained the Bayern president.

According to information from the *Abendzeitung München*, the early completion of transfers and the revenue generated so far—more than 40 million euros—have been particularly well received by the supervisory board. It was precisely this combination of targeted reinforcements and transfer proceeds that the supervisory board had previously called for.

Although there are reportedly still a few critical voices internally, Eberl’s standing has improved significantly overall. Further sales of João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, Bryan Zaragoza, Armindo Sieb, or Hiroki Ito could further strengthen his position.

Dreesen and Freund are also expected to stay

Eberl isn’t the only one currently enjoying the trust of the club’s leadership. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, whose contract also runs through 2027, is expected to remain on board for the long term.

“I am convinced that the supervisory board will make a good decision in due course,” said Hainer. “The same applies, incidentally, to Mr. Dreesen, whose contract extension is pending and with whose work we are just as satisfied.”

Sports Director Christoph Freund also continues to be viewed within the club as a key pillar of its sporting strategy. His work at the Bayern Campus and in signing young talent is particularly valued. Together with Campus Director Jochen Sauer and Michael Wiesinger, the Austrian is playing a decisive role in driving the development of the youth academy forward.

Max Eberl himself reacted with delight to the public praise from Bayern’s leadership but remained cautious. “Of course, I was very pleased by the comments on Thursday—I won’t make any secret of that. Everyone prefers to hear praise,” explained the sporting director. At the same time, he emphasized that ultimately, the supervisory board will decide his future.

As things stand, however, there are many indications that FC Bayern will prioritize continuity in the coming months and extend the contracts of Eberl, Dreesen, and Freund.
