Niko Kovac on the conditions:“We’re happy. When we left Germany today, it was snowing in Dortmund. We have much better conditions here. That’s what we wanted. We wanted good conditions, a good climate, and the sun is doing us good too.”
… the main areas of focus:“We have to keep trying to improve the things we did well. And we have to work on the things we didn’t do so well. As a coach, you always want to improve, and we still have room for improvement in many areas. We also want to use this week to improve our set pieces; we want to create chances. We already have our chances, we just need to make better use of them. It’s all about the details: receiving the ball, carrying it forward, passing. But it’s not really preparation, it’s just a normal week of training ahead of a Bundesliga match. We’ve had a two-week break, so we need to get back into it a bit first.”
… the injured Waldemar Anton and Aaron Anselmino:“Waldi will hopefully be back tomorrow. We’ll have to wait and see with Aaron. He still needs a few days. I hope he’ll be ready by the weekend. But we won’t rush anything or take any risks, because we’ve seen how important he can be.”
… the young players Mussa Kaba, Mathis Albert and Samuele Inacio:“These are the lads who are performing well in the youth teams and deserve a chance to be here, so we can see how they develop and how they fare against older, top-class players. It’s good that they’re here and can show what they can do, and that we can also get an impression of the players. They are the talents of our club, and that’s why we want to give them this opportunity. Now it’s up to the lads, now they have to prove themselves, now they have to assert themselves.”Transcribed by Christina Reinke
