Sunderland have confirmed Timothée Pembélé’s permanent move to Ligue 1 side Le Havre as their summer departures continue.
The club said in a statement that the 23-year-old has joined Le Havre after making eight Sunderland appearances. It added that he also featured 35 times in Ligue 1 during previous stints with the Normandy club.
With regular minutes on Wearside remote, he heads back to a club he knows well. He initially battled injury and fitness issues.
No fee was disclosed, and Sunderland are unlikely to have recouped much, if any, of their original outlay for the right back. The switch eases the wage bill and gives Pembélé a platform to relaunch his career.
The move ends his three-year association with the Black Cats, having arrived from PSG on deadline day in summer 2023. The club has wished him well for the next stage of his career.
