Sunderland have given the green light to winger Simon Adingra to undergo a medical at Ajax before sealing his loan move to the Dutch giants.

Adingra arrived at the Stadium of Light from fellow Premier League side Brighton last summer and put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the club.

The 24-year-old was unable to cement his place in boss Regis Le Bris’ starting eleven and spent the second half of last season on loan at Monaco.

The Ivory Coast international is yet to feature for Sunderland this season and was expected to leave the club, with interest from Championship side West Ham United.

A move to the Hammers did not materialise, but Adingra is now set to join Dutch giants Ajax on a season-long loan deal.

Now, Sunderland have authorised Adingra to undergo his medical at Ajax, and he his already on his way to Amsterdam, according to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij.

Ajax will pay a loan fee of €3.8m for Adingra, and the Eredivisie outfit could also make the move permanent by triggering the option to buy clause, which is set at €16m.

With the summer transfer window closing soon, Sunderland have been working on arrivals as well as departures to help manager Le Bris.

The Black Cats themselves have been looking in the transfer market for a new winger, and were keen on Lyon star Malick Fofana.

However, as things stand, Sunderland are in real danger of missing out on Fofana, as the 21-year-old winger could join Crystal Palace.

Sunderland have been slow in this summer transfer window, having only added Thomas Meunier, Dayann Methalie, and Jules Ahoka to the squad.

Manager Le Bris may want to bring in a few new faces to the Stadium of Light before the summer transfer window shuts, considering the Black Cats also have Europa League football.
