Sunderland have stepped up their interest in Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, with a bid said to be on the table. According to Il Mattino, the offer has been rejected and Napoli are holding out for around £17 million. The report adds that head coach Max Allegri wants to keep the former Fulham player for the coming season.

The 30-year-old has been repeatedly linked with the Wearsiders since their Premier League return last year. The fee quoted is one Sunderland have yet to match.

The United States international is said to be content at OM and would only consider leaving for a sporting challenge significantly greater than the one currently on offer, so a switch to the Stadium of Light is considered improbable.
