Sunderland have dropped their first major hint about next season’s hummel kits, with an Elvis-themed tease emerging after the 2-1 win over Chelsea that sealed Europa League football in 2026/27.
During the post-match celebrations, the main scoreboard showed the club crest on the left and Elvis Presley’s iconic trademark on the right, pointing to a possible tie-up with the Presley estate. Both crest and text appeared in pink against a black background.
Supporters later received an email titled 'Elvis - Episode One' using the same colours. The message read 'some things are meant to be', a nod to Presley’s Can't Help Falling in Love that has become the club’s anthem in recent years, followed by 'Arriving this summer'.
Wise Men Say has underpinned Sunderland’s climb to the Premier League’s top half and looks set to be marked in coming years with a series of kit ranges. The palette may also nod to Presley’s early-career suit, depicted by Austin Butler in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic.
Sunderland and hummel recently extended their partnership on improved commercial terms. "We thank the club for backing us because they would have had other offers but they’ve stuck their neck out and gone for Hummel," said UK CEO Neil Burke, speaking to the i paper.
Next season, hummel are expected to release two retro ranges based on the 1988-1994 partnership, with the club’s three main kits and ranges expected to drop in June, July and August.
