Sunderland are stepping up their pursuit of Toulouse left back Dayann Methalie. According to RMC, talks are advanced with personal terms agreed, and a package of around £25 million is under discussion, with a five-year deal to follow if a fee is settled.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign, featuring regularly and emerging as one of Ligue 1’s brightest prospects. An attacking full back, he has often operated as a wing back since his Toulouse debut and has drawn interest from several clubs.

The left side of defence is a priority on Wearside after Dennis Cirkin departed as a free agent earlier this summer. Arthur Masuaku is also widely expected to leave and has interest from Turkish club Konyaspor.

That leaves Régis Le Bris with Reinildo as the only recognised left back. The experienced 32-year-old was a key figure last season but is now in the second and final year of his contract.

It has been a quiet window, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. After the 4-2 defeat to Liverpool in Nashville, Le Bris said the club are working hard on additions but intend to keep business under the radar, adding this summer will differ from last year when 14 players arrived.
