Sunderland are awaiting updates on suspected hamstring injuries to Brian Brobbey and Dan Ballard suffered on international duty, with Romaine Mundle and Habib Diarra already sidelined.

According to Sunderland Echo, Brobbey departed after 35 minutes of the Netherlands’ Nations League meeting with Germany, then Ballard appeared to suffer a similar issue during Northern Ireland’s 1-0 win in Georgia.

Mundle has featured only as a late substitute in the home win over Fulham. Le Bris said a meniscus injury will keep him out until the new year and bemoaned the winger’s misfortune.

Diarra made two substitute outings after Ipswich Town and Fulham in the opening week before a hamstring setback sidelined him for the last month. Le Bris put his absence at six to eight weeks, so a return is unlikely before the middle of next month.

Brobbey had hit a hat-trick in the 5-3 defeat at Manchester City before linking up with the Netherlands. After the Germany tie, head coach Xavi confirmed he was injured and said another striker would be called up, with the extent still to be determined.

Michael O’Neill said Ballard will be scanned and will not be available for Northern Ireland’s next three fixtures against Hungary, Ukraine and Georgia, describing the nature of the problem as a hamstring issue.
