In a recent report, Parma Live stated that Sunderland are locked in a three-way battle for Parma defender Mariano Troilo. It is believed that the Black Cats would have to compete with Brentford and Leeds United in the race to land the Argentine centre-back this summer.

Troilo’s Important Role At Parma

Troilo served as a good squad player for the Italian club in the previous campaign and managed to put in a run of solid displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 23-year-old found the back of the net once in 23 matches for Parma last season across all competitions.

The Argentine talent is currently one of the most talented centre-halves in Serie A. Thus, it is no surprise that Sunderland are in the running to land him this off-season.

His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for the Black Cats to sign him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.

Will Troilo Be A Good Option For Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris?

Troilo is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is a tidy passer as well.

Standing at 1.94m, Troilo can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to get a deal done for him in this transfer window.

We can expect Troilo to add more bite and steel to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ defence. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light next season.
