Sunderland ‘make enquiry’ for £30m Roma winger Matias Soulé amid Florent Ghisolfi connection | OneFootball

Sunderland are said to have asked Roma about winger Matias Soulé, with an initial request for information lodged, according to Tele Radio Stereo.

Talks are not thought to have progressed further at this stage. Roma’s price is put at just over €35 million, roughly £30 million.

Soulé, 23, could consider a Premier League move, despite interest from Saudi Arabian sides and links with Borussia Dortmund. The Wearside club’s interest carries a natural link, with Florent Ghisolfi now at Sunderland after serving as Roma’s sporting director and helping sign Soulé from Juventus in 2024.

The left-footed right winger began in Argentina with Kimberley and Vélez, then joined Juventus in 2020. He moved through Juve’s youth and Next Gen teams, debuted for the first team in 2021 and later featured in the Champions League.

A breakout loan at Frosinone in 2023-24 saw him finish as top scorer with 11 goals and lead Serie A for successful dribbles. Roma signed him in 2024 in a deal reported at about £23.9 million plus £3.4 million in bonuses.

Known for dribbling, set-pieces and creativity from the right, he has drawn comparisons with Ángel Di María. Soulé scored seven goals in all competitions for Roma last season, making 42 appearances, 33 of them in Serie A.
