According to Tele Radio Stereo, Sunderland have made an enquiry for Roma winger Matias Soulé, with the asking price said to be just over €35million, about £30million. The contact has not progressed beyond the information stage.
Soulé, 23, could consider a move to the Premier League, despite interest from Saudi Arabian clubs and links with Borussia Dortmund, the report added.
There is an obvious connection through Florent Ghisolfi, now on Wearside after a spell as Roma’s sporting director, where he helped bring Soulé from Juventus in 2024.
The left-footed right winger began with Kimberley and Vélez in Argentina, then joined Juventus in 2020. He rose through the youth and Next Gen sides, debuting for the first team in 2021 and later featuring in the Champions League.
Soulé shone on loan at Frosinone in 2023-24, finishing as top scorer with 11 goals and leading Serie A for successful dribbles. He then joined Roma in 2024 for around £23.9million plus £3.4million in bonuses.
Renowned for dribbling, set pieces and creativity from the right, he has previously drawn comparisons with Ángel Di María. Last season he scored seven goals in all competitions for Roma, making 42 appearances, 33 of them in Serie A.
