Sunderland over turn two-goal deficit to defeat Cherries

Sunderland came from two goals down to clinch all three points on a rainy afternoon at the Stadium of Light with Brian Brobbey netting the winner against Bournemouth.

The visitors took the lead in the seventh minute when Evanilson somehow missed the post from a yard out after a low delivery from the left. Lucky for the Cherries, Amine Adli was the first to react to put his side ahead early on with the Moroccan's first goal for his new side.

Bournemouth's lead was doubled soon after thanks to a moment of magic from Tyler Adams. The American saw goalkeeper Robin Roefs off his line and, with the kind of shot we have seen a surprisingly large amount in recent weeks, managed to find the net from just inside the Sunderland half.

The Black Cats reduced the deficit with a half hour gone after Alex Scott was penalised for a clumsy foul on Reinildo Mandava. Enzo Le Fée stepped up to take the penalty and fired his effort centrally into the roof of the net as Djordje Petrovic dived to his right.

It was 2-2 within the first minute of the second half. Sunderland teased crossing from the right a few times before Bertrand Traoré decided instead to take a shot and tucked in at the near post.

The turnaround was complete in the 70th minute when Le Fée whipped in a corner from the left that substitute Brian Brobbey headed in to score his second goal in three games.

The Cherries eventually finished the game with 10 men and Lewis Cook may well be facing a further ban after he elbowed Mandava and received a straight red card from referee Tim Robinson who thought he should leave.

That result puts Sunderland back into the top four ahead of the teams below them playing tomorrow.
