Sunderland retained list to include trio despite expected summer exits | OneFootball

Sunderland’s official retained list is due within the next week, and three players are expected to be named on it despite being expected to move on this summer. According to Sunderland Echo, Harrison Jones, Timur Tutierov and Zak Johnson are expected to appear under retained, though exits are still anticipated.

The move is understood to protect the club’s position, preserving value ahead of any departures. A small fee or a sell-on clause, or both, could accompany any exit.

The trio are not necessarily expected to leave immediately, but the expectation remains that departures will follow.

Jones has interest from League One, League Two and Scotland ahead of an expected departure. The local midfielder is well regarded at the Academy of Light and has been around the senior set-up during a hugely successful spell for the club, though promotion to the Premier League has altered pathways for some young players.

Tutierov and Johnson are also expected to move on as Sunderland reshape elements of their academy and development group this summer.
