Mark Campbell is expected to complete his takeover of Sunderland by the end of this week.
And according to The Northern Echo, the English businessman is hoping to quickly tie up deals for two new signings.
Campbell is set to replace Stewart Donald as the Black Cats’ majority shareholder and the takeover is reportedly on track to be completed before the weekend.
And once done, work will begin on bringing Doncaster striker John Marquis and free agent Harry Brockbank to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland made an initial approach for Marquis in January and the 27-year-old went on to score 26 goals for Rovers last season.
However, they are expected to face competition for his signature from the likes of Millwall and Queens Park Rangers, with Doncaster boss Grant McCann recently admitting that the player wants to leave the Keepmoat Stadium.
“If truth be told, John probably doesn’t want to be here,” said McCann.
“He feels he deserves a crack at the Championship and so do I to be honest. I think to score 26 goals, he deserves the chance at a Championship club and we won’t stand in his way.”
Meanwhile, Brockbank is available on a free transfer after his Bolton Wanderers contract expired by the right-back is also said to be attracted interest from the Championship, as well as relegated Ipswich Town.
The 20-year-old is seen as a perfect replacement for Adam Matthews, who could return to Celtic following his release from Sunderland at the end of the season.
