Sunderland are braced for a significant behind-the-scenes overhaul this summer.
Sunderland Echo understands that Chief Business Officer David Bruce is set to leave. He joined in July 2023 as Chief Brand and Commercial Officer, then became Chief Business Officer a year later. He helped switch kit supplier to hummel and outsourced retail to Fanatics, and oversaw the 'Til The End campaign, which drew praise from supporters.
The club are moving in a different direction to grow commercial income. A new CEO is expected to be appointed this summer, tasked with driving revenues to strengthen the club’s Premier League position.
Off-field changes are already under way. Mike Papadimitriou was named Chief Financial Officer last September. Non-executive director Tom Burwell recently joined the board, and both have close links to Bia Sports Group, the vehicle through which Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori manage their sporting investments.
Burwell will act as interim CEO until the permanent hire is made. The club are also recruiting a Chief Revenue Officer after Ashley Peden left the Chief Commercial Officer post in January. Scott McCubbin, who also works with Bia Sports Group, is covering the revenue role on an interim basis.
