SportDog reports that Sunderland have shown interest in Paraguay midfielder Matias Galarza after their contentious World Cup last-16 tie with France, with Olympiakos and Getafe said to be leading the chase.
With current Sunderland player Omar Alderete and former Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron in the XI, Gustavo Alfaro’s side went out as Kylian Mbappe converted a penalty. Paraguay’s approach drew criticism for persistent disruption.
France boss Didier Deschamps said he would not criticise the referee, noted his team finished with three bookings despite plenty happening, and added he could do without insults. He stressed there were no incidents at the end and that qualification was what mattered.
Galarza was singled out after a first-half clash with Mbappe that BBC pundit Joe Hart suggested could have resulted in a red card.
The 24-year-old plays for CA Talleres in Argentina and previously spent two years at Genk, featuring in Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League qualifying. The report also lists Monza and Strasbourg among suitors and says he has more than two years left on his Talleres deal.
