Sunderland have reportedly told interested clubs what it will take to get their man. They want more than £50 million to let star goalkeeper Robin Roefs leave this summer. A report from the BBC claims that Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool are all seriously looking at the 23-year-old.

Roefs has been a massive hit in the Premier League since he joined. The Black Cats expect a bidding war and have moved fast to lock in his value. Still, they admit behind closed doors that they probably can’t say no to that kind of money. If they get their price, it would mean a huge profit on the initial investment they made only last year.

Roefs moved from the Eredivisie to the Stadium of Light in August 2025. Since then, his career has taken off in a way few people saw coming. Sunderland picked up the 6ft 4in keeper from NEC Nijmegen for a small fee, but he became a key player right away.

By February 5, 2026, Roefs had already played 24 Premier League games. He has kept eight clean sheets and stopped 74.5% of the shots he’s faced. That is the second-best record in the league. He showed his quality again in the 3-0 win over Burnley earlier this week, where he stopped every single thing the Clarets sent his way.

International scouts have noticed Roefs as well. Ronald Koeman gave Roefs his first senior call-up for the Netherlands late last year. That move proved he is now one of the top young keepers in Europe. The club’s owners got ready for him to leave by signing Swedish talent Melker Ellborg in January. This shows they are already planning for life without Roefs.

The summer will be a big turning point. Roefs could be the long-term replacement for Alisson at Liverpool. At the same time, Chelsea’s situation in goal is still up in the air. Manchester City’s interest makes things even more interesting. It looks like they see him as someone who could push Donnarumma for the starting spot.

To Sell or to Keep?

Sunderland are in a great spot here. Selling Roefs for £50 million would give them a massive budget to fix up the whole squad. It would basically set the club up financially for years. It’s always tough to lose a star player, but the scouts have shown they can find top talent without spending a fortune. The Dutchman has a high price tag, and the club already have Ellborg ready to step in. Given these factors, taking the money looks like the smart, if difficult, way to go.
