Sunderland snatch point at Brentford | OneFootball

Sunderland fought back late to earn a 1-1 draw at Brentford, with Enzo Le Fée converting from the spot to cancel out Vitaly Janelt’s second-half opener.

The visitors were the stronger side before the break and thought they had taken the lead when Daniel Ballard volleyed home. However, VAR ruled the goal out after deciding new signing Kevin Danso was in an offside position and interfering with play.

Le Fée then came close himself, rattling the post with a powerful effort from distance as Brentford struggled to create much.

Keith Andrews responded by making three changes at half-time, and the Bees improved immediately. Robin Roefs denied Igor Thiago before Brentford finally broke through in the 57th minute.

Nordi Mukiele failed to clear Mikkel Damsgaard’s delivery properly, allowing Janelt to brilliantly cut across the ball and fire a half-volley into the top corner.

Brentford appeared set to hold on, but Sunderland found a route back into the contest late on. Wilson Isidor caused problems after coming off the bench and won a penalty when Keane Lewis-Potter was penalised for pulling him down inside the area.

Le Fée made no mistake from 12 yards, sending Caoimhin Kelleher the wrong way to secure a deserved point.

The result keeps Brentford unbeaten after three games, while Sunderland move onto four points.
