Sunderland ‘submit bid’ for Igor Paixão as Geny Catamo talks remain difficult | OneFootball

Sunderland have submitted a bid to sign Marseille winger Igor Paixão as they seek to bolster Régis Le Bris’ attack before the deadline.

Sky Sports first reported that the Black Cats hold firm interest in the 26-year-old, and talks between the clubs are continuing.

Paixão has emerged as an alternative to long-term Sporting CP target Geny Catamo, with another winger a priority. Marseille’s need to raise funds could influence negotiations before the window shuts early next week.

There is no suggestion a deal is close or that personal terms have been finalised. Discussions continue over whether an agreement can be reached.

Paixão is predominantly a left-sided attacker but has also operated on the right and in central roles, offering Le Bris flexibility across the front line if required.

Sunderland have worked on Catamo too, yet talks with Sporting have proved difficult. The player is open to the move, but the Portuguese club have so far resisted softening their demands.
