Régis Le Bris has kept an unchanged Sunderland XI for the Premier League trip to Arsenal, with Melker Ellborg and Nilson Angulo added to the bench at the Emirates Stadium.

According to Sunderland Echo, the head coach has retained the system and personnel that delivered an excellent win over Burnley on Monday, with Trai Hume set to reprise a hybrid role on the right.

Sunderland XI: Roefs, Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo, Hume, Sadiki, Diarra, Le Fee, Talbi, Brobbey.

Subs: Ellborg, Angulo, Geertruida, Mayenda, Isidor, Cirkin, Rigg, O’Nien, Mundle.

Deadline-day addition Angulo could make his debut from the bench despite only arriving on Wearside on Thursday night. He has been playing regularly in the Belgian league this season, so Le Bris has no concerns over his match fitness.

As widely expected, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are absent from the Arsenal squad due to injury.

Le Bris said Angulo is a strong, powerful, tall winger with a South American style, creative and keen on one-v-one situations. He views the Ecuador international as defensively sound and noted he has even filled in as a left wing-back for Anderlecht.

The head coach stressed the need for wingers in the Premier League to balance defensive work with attacking energy, and believes Angulo can combine both phases effectively, defending the flank alone while remaining a threat.
