Sunderland have been linked with Celtic midfielder Arne Engels around the £25m mark, while Rennes are pushing to sign Eliezer Mayenda amid fresh movement on several fronts.

Foot Mercato reports Rennes are making a strong move for Mayenda. Sunderland Echo understands the striker wants to leave this summer for more minutes, and with a deal to 2030, the club retain a firm negotiating position.

Sunderland are credited with interest in Engels, 22, a four-cap Belgium international under contract at Celtic until 2028. Nottingham Forest and Fulham are also keen, and Forest are said to have seen January bids up to £25m rejected.

Reports in France indicate Monaco have not taken up the permanent option on Simon Adingra’s January loan, so he is set to return to Wearside. The winger produced one goal and one assist in 15 Sunderland games before moving to Ligue 1.

Alan Nixon reports Huddersfield Town are plotting a loan for academy goalkeeper Matty Young, who has senior experience with Darlington and Salford City. Nixon also links Wrexham and Millwall with Anthony Patterson, valued at about £8m to £10m.

Ben Jacobs reports Blackburn Rovers have had a £650,000 offer for former Sunderland forward Sam Greenwood rejected by Pogon Szczecin, with add-ons taking the bid to £1m.
