Sunderland ‘to sign’ Lucas Bergvall claim dismissed | OneFootball

Claims that Sunderland have reached a full agreement to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall are wide of the mark, and no deal is in place.

Football Insider had reported that the Black Cats submitted an offer and struck an agreement, with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest also linked, but that account does not reflect Sunderland’s current position.

Bergvall, 20, is valued at around £50million and Spurs are likely to seek the best terms given his age and profile. He moved from Djurgården in 2024 and later signed a contract until 2031, strengthening Tottenham’s hand.

Able to play several central midfield roles, he is regarded as one of Sweden’s leading prospects and would be a bold addition for Régis Le Bris’ side. His age, technical quality and potential resale value would appear to fit Sunderland’s model, and further additions are expected before the summer window closes.

Thomas Meunier remains the only senior arrival at present, and Florent Ghisolfi has signalled a more measured approach after last summer’s overhaul. For now, talk of a Bergvall agreement can be set aside, and the midfielder is not on his way to the Stadium of Light.
