Sunderland top-half odds shortened after 1-1 at Bournemouth

Sunderland’s top-half Premier League odds have been trimmed after a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth left them two points off 10th. Victory at Leeds United tonight could close the gap on the European spots and take them into the top half, depending on Bournemouth’s result against Brentford.

Eliezer Mayenda opened the scoring on the South Coast before Evanilson equalised. According to Sunderland Echo, bettors have piled in, with 91% of bets backing a top-10 finish for the Black Cats.

Sunderland’s price has shortened from 4/1 to 11/4 following that draw, having been as big as 40/1 before a ball was kicked this season. They were as short as 2/9 to go down at the start, which highlights the turnaround under Regis Le Bris.

In the latest top-half market, Sunderland are 11/4, with Bournemouth 10/11 and Brighton 6/5. Crystal Palace are 6/1 and Leeds 8/1.

A Tyne Wear derby at St James’ Park arrives later this month, yet it is unlikely to define their campaign. If they are to finish in the top 10, home form will be vital, with only Arsenal and Manchester City losing fewer home matches this season.

Sunderland have five Premier League home games left, against Brighton, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea. They also visit bottom-of-the-league Wolves at Molineux in May, a fixture they will hope to win despite Wolves’ upturn in form.
