Foot Mercato reports that Sunderland made an enquiry for Marseille winger Weah before the World Cup, although nothing has advanced. He is described as content under new head coach Bruno Génésio, so is not agitating to leave, but Marseille’s need to improve finances means exits cannot be ruled out.

As it stands, Weah does not appear to be a primary Sunderland target, though that could change before the window closes. The club have an interest in Sporting’s Geny Catamo, yet Record wrote this week that a significant gap remains in valuations, with a €60 million clause and Sporting reluctant to sell.

Sunderland chose not to trigger their option to buy Geertruida this summer. He is set to depart RB Leipzig, with a valuation around €20 million similar to last season’s option. Sunderland’s year-long pursuit of Lucumí is winding down elsewhere. Bologna refused to sell last summer after key departures, despite the player’s camp urging a move, and Sunderland ruled out a fresh approach before January while not appearing to revisit him this summer. Fabrizio Romano reports Bologna are in advanced talks with Juventus, with Lucumí having already agreed to join.
