Sunderland and Toulouse are still in dialogue over Dayann Methalie, with the left back's proposed transfer currently in the balance.

According to L'Equipe, there is disagreement over a potential back issue, with Sunderland exploring an initial loan while Toulouse want the original deal to proceed.

After months of negotiations, a package of around £26 million and a five-year contract were agreed, and Methalie travelled to Wearside earlier this week. The move stalled when a possible problem was flagged during his medical, and he returned to France on Tuesday.

The concern was not considered serious enough to end talks immediately. Sunderland sought further advice and Toulouse set about their own assessment.

Sunderland want to add another left back before the window closes and believed the France U21 international would be a strong fit on and off the pitch. They still hope a compromise can be found but will not put the club at risk given the finances involved, and alternative targets remain under consideration.
