Simon Adingra is set to return to Sunderland, with reports in France indicating Monaco will not take up a permanent option, while goalkeeper Matty Young is attracting loan interest.
Adingra, the former Brighton and Hove Albion star, joined last summer and managed one goal and one assist in 15 appearances before moving to Monaco midway through the campaign.
NiceMatin claims the Ligue 1 club will not trigger permanent options for Adingra and fellow loanee Wout Faes. The Ivory Coast international is due back on Wearside, with a decision on his long-term future expected after this summer’s World Cup finals.
Another Ivorian winger, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, continues to be linked with Liverpool after a season of 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances. Reports have suggested Liverpool would need to bid more than £100m.
“During negotiations with Leipzig, things also became very concrete with Sunderland. However, they didn’t want to trigger the release clause.” He told Sky Sports.
Sunderland’s 19-year-old goalkeeper Matty Young will return after another productive stint with Salford City. He first spent time on loan at Darlington in 2024/25, then stepped into the EFL with Salford and last season kept 16 clean sheets in 50 appearances.
After signing a long-term deal last month, Young is expected to head out on loan again next season, with Huddersfield Town said to be the latest club interested.
