Sunderland are braced for an important summer as European football returns. Here are the key dates for the transfer window.
The Premier League have confirmed the summer window opens on Monday, June 15. Clubs can line up deals beforehand, but registrations can only be completed once the window is open.
This year the window closes at 11pm on Tuesday, September one, later than the seven pm deadline used in the last two years. A deal sheet can be filed after nine pm to secure an extra two hours to finish paperwork, with transfers able to be finalised until one am.
It is just under a fortnight since Sunderland beat Chelsea on the final day to clinch Europa League qualification and a first taste of competitive European football at the Stadium of Light next season. Regis Le Bris’ side will play at least eight additional games in the league phase of UEFA’s secondary club competition alongside Juventus, Marseille and AC Milan. Further progress in Europe, the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup could add more.
Former defender Darren Williams has warned that squad depth will be essential for such a schedule, and links have already surfaced. Wrexham are said to be monitoring goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, while forward Eliezer Mayenda is reportedly attracting interest from Championship newcomers West Ham United.
