The Toon teenagers conceded three times in the first-half at the Academy of Light, with Finn Geragusyan's quick-fire brace firing the hosts into an early lead before Marcus Neill's penalty extended the Black Cats' advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Alfie Hutchison, who joined Newcastle from Glasgow Rangers last summer, pulled a goal back for the visitors shortly after the hour mark before Ivan Struk regained Sunderland's three-goal cushion in the closing stages.

Chris Moore's side aim to return to winning ways in the Under-18 Premier League North when hosting their Nottingham Forest counterparts at the Magpies' Little Benton Academy on Saturday, 25th October (kick-off 1pm BST).
