Ian Poveda is reportedly closing in on a Sunderland exit after travelling to Colombia for a proposed move to Inter Bogota.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, the 26-year-old has landed in Bogota and is expected to finalise the switch after agreeing personal terms.

The report added he was photographed with Salvatore Simeone and Gonzalo Muñoz, who oversee Inter’s sporting management, and an official announcement is anticipated soon.

Poveda joined Sunderland on a free in 2024 following his departure from Leeds United, but his spell on Wearside has been difficult. He has made just six senior appearances, all as a substitute. His last outing was a four-minute cameo in February during a Championship defeat to Leeds.

The winger, capped twice by Colombia, has drawn interest from several South American clubs of late, but appears closest to Inter, the current top flight leaders in his homeland.

If the move goes through, it would be the first time in his club career he has played outside England. Although he was in Barcelona’s academy as a youngster, his senior career has taken him from Manchester City to Leeds, plus spells with Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday.
