FLW's QPR fan pundit has given his verdict on the transfer interest surrounding Rumarn Burrell

Rumarn Burrell has enjoyed a positive first season at QPR since joining from Burton Albion last summer.

The forward has cemented himself as an important part of Julien Stéphan’s first team squad, contributing 10 goals and three assists from 29 appearances in the Championship.

Availability has hampered his progress, with an injury suffered in January keeping him out of action until his 11 April return off the bench against Bristol City.

The 25-year-old is still getting back to full match fitness, and has yet to score his coming back into the team.

However, speculation is now mounting over his future at Loftus Road after impressing in the first half of the campaign.

It has been reported by Football Insider that Wolves, Bournemouth and Sunderland are all keen on signing the Jamaica international in the upcoming transfer window.

When asked if Burrell is ready to step up to the Premier League, and how much a deal could cost, FLW’s QPR fan pundit Louis Moir claimed that it might be a step too much too soon for the forward.

He believes that another year in the Championship might be the best for his development, and that he’ll have a lot of interest next year if he stays fit and keeps scoring, but that £10 million might be enough to secure his services this summer.

“I do think it’s a bit too early in his career to talk about Premier League football Burrell,” Moir told Football League World.

“He’s not had a full season with us in the Championship, and I’d be shocked if he was to leave.

“Of course, clubs are going to be interested in loads of players but whether they actually make a move or put in the money that would probably make us willing to accept, you’re going to be talking £10 million or so, around that price range for a player who has impressed.

“Unfortunate to get injured, but if it wasn’t for getting injured, who knows how many goals he’d be on, he’s had a cracking first season with us in the Championship.

“If he does well with us again next season there could be even more interest, but I’d be baffled really if he was to go to the Premier League so soon in his career.

“I just can’t see it at all, it would take a lot of money, around £10 million or so.”

Moir believes that QPR will be able to hold onto Burrell for another campaign, even with interest coming from the Premier League, but that a £10 million offer would be enough to change things.

“But even for himself, you probably wouldn’t be put off by a Premier League move, but for his own development he probably needs at least another season in the Championship to see if he can replicate what he’s done this year, or if not even better,” he added.

“I’m confident that he’s still going to be a QPR player next season.

“If we kick on next season and he kicks on, he could really score a lot of goals for us and who knows he might end up playing in the Premier League for us.

“I’d be looking at £10 million.

“Plus, you can’t just come in, he’s not even been with us a full season, wanting to take him already.

“£10 million and he’s yours, otherwise I think we’re going to see Burrell, if he doesn’t get a bad injury again, probably get a lot more goals than he did this season next year.”

Burrell signed a five year contract with QPR when he joined from Burton last summer, meaning his deal runs until June 2030.

This will give the London outfit a lot of leverage going into the upcoming transfer market, and they will effectively be able to name their price.

Bournemouth and Sunderland are both competing for European qualification for next season, while Wolves have suffered relegation to the Championship.

Meanwhile, QPR’s season is essentially over already, with the team not in danger of relegation but also unable to compete for promotion.

Stéphan’s side go into this weekend’s penultimate round of fixtures sitting 13th in the table, 12 points adrift of sixth place Wrexham with only six left on offer.

Next up for the Hoops is a home clash against Derby County on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off, before they end the campaign away to Ipswich Town on 2 May.

QPR must hold firm on Rumarn Burrell stance

Burrell showed in the first half of the campaign that he can be a top forward at this level, scoring 10 times from his first 26 appearances.

It’s possible he could hit the 20-goal mark next season if he can stay fit, which would make him the kind of player that can help QPR push for a top six finish.

The club must hold firm in their stance on him, meaning they should only accept the kind of figure that is too good to turn down, which could be the £10 million mark.

The 25-year-old has plenty of time left on his contract, and QPR should be in no rush to sell him this summer.
