Sunderland travel to Elland Road tonight, aiming to halt a dismal run in March and secure their first away victory in the Premier League since October.
The Black Cats have moved into a challenging phase of their season, having won just four of their last 19 matches. Manager Regis Le Bris oversaw a hard-fought 1–1 draw at Bournemouth on Saturday, but his side now faces a daunting trip to West Yorkshire, where they have failed to win in their last three visits. Notably, Sunderland are winless in their last 17 Premier League games played in March, a streak dating back to 2012.
Regis Le Bris manages a squad heavily depleted by a wave of long-term injuries to key senior players. Notably, Romaine Mundle is ruled out for at least six weeks following surgery, while Jocelin Ta Bi also remains sidelined. Consequently, the return of captain Granit Xhaka to the starting lineup on Saturday provides much-needed leadership in midfield. Notably, Sunderland have struggled significantly on Tuesday nights, scoring just one goal in their last nine midweek Premier League games.
Robin Roefs will start in goal behind a defensive line likely featuring Dan Ballard and Omar Alderete. Trai Hume is expected to continue filling in at left-back due to injuries to Dennis Cirkin and Reinildo. In midfield, Granit Xhaka will partner Noah Sadiki, while Enzo Le Fee and Habib Diarra provide the creative spark. Eliezer Mayenda will lead the attack as he seeks to become the first Sunderland player in a year to score in back-to-back league games.
Sunderland Predicted XI: Roefs; Geertruida, Ballard, Alderete, Hume; Xhaka, Sadiki; Talbi, Diarra, Le Fee; Mayenda
The Premier League fixture takes place at Elland Road on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30 GMT.
