High-flying Sunderland travel to Old Trafford on Saturday, aiming to continue their remarkable start to life back in the Premier League.
The Black Cats sit fifth in the table, having collected 11 points from their opening six games—the best start by a promoted side in over a decade.
Régis Le Bris’s side face their toughest test yet against a Manchester United team that, despite poor form, has an incredible home record in this fixture. Sunderland have won just once in their last 31 visits to Old Trafford. However, given the contrasting fortunes of the two clubs this season, they will be confident of causing an upset.
Régis Le Bris is contending with a number of absences for the trip to Manchester. He will be without the suspended Reinildo, with Arthur Masuaku the most likely to deputise at left-back. The injury list also includes Romaine Mundle, Dennis Cirkin, Leo Hjelde, and Aji Alese.
However, the manager has been boosted by the news that Nordi Mukiele and Luke O’Nien are both fit and available for selection. The creative responsibility will fall on captain Granit Xhaka, who has assisted each of Sunderland’s last three Premier League goals.
Sunderland predicted XI: Roefs; Mukiele, Geertruida, Alderete, Masuaku; Xhaka, Sadiki; Traore, Talbi, Adingra; Isidor.
The Premier League fixture will be played at Old Trafford on Saturday, 4 October 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 pm BST.
The match will not be broadcast live in the UK due to the 3:00 pm blackout.
