Sunderland face significant contract decisions as several first-team players approach key junctures, with a cluster of departures nearing completion.
According to Sunderland Echo, seven players are into the final 12 months of their deals. Two of that group are expected to depart within 48 hours, with Arthur Masuaku set for Konyaspor and Abdoullah Ba for League One side Peterborough United.
Two others are close to exits, with defender Leo Hjelde in line for Belgian club Mechelen and Anthony Patterson undergoing a medical at Wrexham. Patterson progressed from the Academy of Light into the first team and helped the Black Cats win two promotions.
By moving towards exits for Hjelde and Patterson this summer, Sunderland are addressing the futures of two players that were heading towards the final 18 months of their contracts. As it stands, long-serving Luke O’Nien and Reinildo Mandava will be able to leave on a free at the end of the season.
Contract expiries, as it stands: Summer 2027, Simon Moore, Arthur Masuaku, Reinildo Mandava, Alan Browne, Luke O’Nien, Aji Alese, Abdoullah Ba.
Summer 2028, Thomas Meunier, Granit Xhaka, Anthony Patterson, Wilson Isidor, Jenson Seelt, Leo Hjelde, Hemir.
Summer 2029, Nordi Mukiele, Omar Alderete, Brian Brobbey, Dan Ballard, Enzo Le Fee.
