According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland have significant contract decisions to make, with eight players out of contract this summer as their European push continues.

Regis Le Bris’ side have a two-week wait before returning to action, and they are buoyed by their Tyne-Wear derby win at St James’ Park. Brian Brobbey struck late to complete a league double over Newcastle United, leaving Sunderland within three points of the top seven and a further three from the top five.

Seven games remain. Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea visit the Stadium of Light, with trips to Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton before the campaign ends in May. Le Bris is aiming to become only the second Sunderland manager to lead the club into Europe, and the first since Bob Stokoe in 1973.

Earlier this month, Dan Ballard signed a new long-term deal. Those whose contracts expire in summer 2026 are Simon Moore, Bertrand Traore, Lutsharel Geertruida on loan, Dennis Cirkin, Harrison Jones, Niall Huggins, Zak Johnson and Dan Neil. Huggins, Johnson and Neil are currently out on loan.

Further expiries are staged through 2027 to 2030. The 2027 group includes Reinildo Mandava, Luke O’Nien and Abdoullah Ba, while 2028 features Granit Xhaka, Timothee Pembele and Anthony Patterson. Deals to 2029 cover Nordi Mukiele, Omar Alderete, Brian Brobbey and Enzo Le Fee, and to 2030 include Trai Hume, Chris Rigg, Eliezer Mayenda and Ballard. Some listed players are out on loan.
