Sunderland supporters turned St James’s Park into a sea of red and white as the Black Cats won 2-1 on Sunday. Back on Wearside, pubs, bars and a city-centre fanzone were packed for the derby.
According to Sunderland Echo, the Fire Station ran a giant indoor fanzone with a giant screen showing the match live, special guests including former Sunderland favourite Lee Howey, and non-stop club anthems.
The day was ticketed, and popular podcasts Wise Men Say and WTFSunderland Podcast staged a live discussion as they hosted the pre-match party.
Andrew Dipper, Sales and Marketing Director at The Fire Station, said they wanted to help make Derby Day special, describing an electric atmosphere with supporters in good spirits and families of all ages making memories together.
He added that the event was a real success and that the venue is developing its fanzone offer, aiming to bring more days like this to Sunderland, including screenings of all three of England’s group matches at the World Cup.
